Our story

Founded in March 2016 by four young entrepreneurs, our company specialises in the cultivation or sourcing (from producers) of plants and fruits, and their transformation into liqueurs, syrups and herbal teas. Since May 2021, we have also been producing a range of organic craft beers. All our products are marketed under the name La Vertueuse and are available in a variety of flavours.

It is in the heart of the Massif Central (Yssingeaux, Haute-Loire – 43), in an agricultural and natural mid-mountain region marked by numerous volcanic peaks known as “Sucs”, that we chose to establish our business.

Our production is 100% artisanal and local. We control the entire production process. Our goal is to create unique products without artificial flavourings, colourings or preservatives, helping to highlight our local terroir. Proud of our regional traditions, we are committed to crafting products that respect traditional production methods. Our artisanal and entirely natural approach gives our products an authentic quality and flavour, perfect to be enjoyed after a meal or as an aperitif. We also strive to use raw materials that are 100% made in France (bottles, corks, labels, alcohol, etc.).

OUR LIQUEUR DISTILLERY

1 Cultivation

We place great importance on responsibly cultivating our plants and fruits under organic certification, as they form the raw materials for our liqueurs, syrups and herbal teas. Fruits or plants that are not produced directly on the farm (lemons, pears, chestnuts, génépi, etc.) are carefully selected from local producers known for their expertise and respect for the environment. We aim to engage our company in a sustainable development approach: zero pesticides, drip irrigation, development of short supply chains, and sales directly on the farm. These standards give our products a unique taste and exceptional flavours that truly represent the terroir of Haute-Loire.

2 Harvesting

The plants and fruits are harvested by hand, using traditional methods and respecting seasonality. They are then sorted and carefully selected before being placed in maceration.

3 Maceration

All of our liqueurs undergo two maceration processes. After several months of aging in tanks, they are filtered and then blended before being bottled.

4 Bottling

All our liqueurs are bottled by us directly on the farm.

OUR BREWERY

1 Crushing

Our malts, sourced from organic farming, have been carefully selected to produce a beer with a unique colour and flavour.

2 Brewing

Our 10HL brewhouse allows us to produce high-quality brews while precisely controlling the mashing, filtration, and boiling stages.

3 Fermentation

Our isobaric fermenters (10 and 20 HL) ensure a stable and natural carbonation of our beers.

4 Bottling

After several weeks of fermentation, our beers can be bottled.
